Saturated Deprivation: An Installation by Dana Childs

I met Mr. Dana Childs three years ago. We were assigned brother and sister ceramic duo at Chautuaqua Instition.

I AM IN AWE. wow. Dana. An entire tile room.
FUCK YA.

They say that grad school expands your mind. evaluates you. tears you apart. you're made to push your seams back together and make sense of your new body.
Some people come out looking just. TORN.
Some people come out anew. better than before.
Dana. YOU Look Fantastic.

! Mother Goose !

One misty moisty morning,

When cloudy was the weather,

I chanced to meet an old man,

Clothed all in leather.

He began to compliment

And I began to grin.

How do you do? And how do you do?

And how do you do again?

dang momma.
go sit on your egg.

Галина Уланова танец умирающего лебедя 1956 год

long before studying the days of rococo.
i was interested in ballet.
i enjoy the fluid movements of limbs.
watching a study of physical perfection.

recently.during my moments of silent.self.complaisance.ness
i watch clips of the white swan dieing.
(so morbid)
.giggle.

when this lin was a lil'one
...
i had a beautiful edition of "Swan Lake". (chris van allsburg)
'twas my favorite book.

in the book the swan, odette, drowns with her prince, siegfried. awe.
i try not to be a romantic.but.alas. i am.
...
i can only hope to die
with ballerina white swan like grace.

silly.silicosis.slippin in my lungs.
i'll die knowing i tried.

.that will be my grace.

Shoji Hamada bowl

Clay is primal. Functional objects have a tactile way of connecting us to each other and with the past. From the beginning of civilization people have been using clay to create the necessary containers for holding liquid or storing goods. The functional vessel evokes interaction; an individual intuitively knows how to use the item for their task. Pottery is a part of each person's daily ritual. A piece of pottery is a sculpture, a sculpture that has an intimate relationship with the viewer. There are not many sculptures that you are encouraged to hold in your hands, press upon your lips, or handle like you will the vessel. The use of handmade pottery completes the work and is itself, a Performance Art piece.
